Born in New York, he attended Carnegie Mellon University in the late 50/début 60s. After completing his studies, he began his directing career by turning short films and commercials, he practiced business since its 14 years. A few years later, he began by creating the production company Image Ten Productions.In 1968 he produced Night of the Living Dead , a cult which has already announced his penchant for horror films and creatures recur in his work, the undead. It continues along the same lines with There's Always Vanilla(1971), The Crazies (1973), Season of the Witch (1973) or Martin (1977) a vampire movie, but they do not meet the expected success . These feature films have one thing in common with The Night of the Living Dead : a social critique (consumerism, racism ...).Down of the Dead (better known as the Zombie in Europe) give Romero on the path to success in 1978. With a budget of $ 1.5 million at the start, the film is so successful that it is worth 40 million. Down of the dead will also part of the list of cult films of Entertainment Weekly in the 2000s . It connects the zombie movies later: The Day of the Dead (1985) , The Land of the Dead (2005), Chronicle of the Living Dead (2008) and Survival of the Dead(2010) . In 1999, Romero was make Resident Evil , but not finding his account, he preferred to leave the project.
Throughout his career, Romero surrounds the largest such as Dario Argento , Stephen King, Dennis Hopper ... that allow it to make feature films of quality, especially in terms of casting, makeup and scenarios.
